Long Beach City Councilman Anthony Eramo defeated former Nassau County Legislator Jeff Toback by a wide margin in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for the vacant 20th Assembly District seat.
According to unofficial results released with all 114 voting districts reporting, Eramo had 2,828 votes, or 71 percent, while Toback garnered 1,130 votes, or 28 percent.
Eramo will face Republican candidate Missy Miller, of Atlantic Beach, and Green Party candidate Joseph Naham, of Long Beach, in the Nov. 8 general election.

The Communications Workers of America has endorsed Democratic Senate hopeful Ryan Cronin in his bid to unseat Republican incumbent Kemp Hannon.
The endorsement from CWA District 1 — a union that represents more than 150,000 workers — comes as the Cronin-Hannon race is among a handful of top tier battleground districts for control of the Senate this fall.
“I’m proud to receive CWA’s endorsement and the support of their hardworking men and women on Long Island,” Cronin said in a statement.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo Friday appointed Howard Weitzman to the Nassau Interim Finance Authority, ignoring the objections of County Executive Edward Mangano, who contended the former county comptroller is too partisan to serve on the board.
In May, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie nominated Weitzman, a Democrat who served two terms as comptroller from 2001-2009, to replace Adam Haber on the state oversight board, which is in control of the county’s finances.

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — One Long Island lawmaker is pushing for greater transparency in Nassau County on multi-million dollar contract awards.
Legislator Laura Curran (D-Baldwin) has introduced legislation that requires all contracts above $3 million receive a full legislative vote from all 19 members.
Curran said currently “hundreds of millions of dollars worth of contracts are voted on by just the seven members of the Legislature’s Rules Committee,” which she notes is one-third of the whole body.

Sen. Todd Kaminsky on Monday was endorsed for his re-election by the League of Conservation Voters.
Kaminsky, a Democrat, is running for a full two-year term after winning a special election in April to fill the vacant Senate seat formerly held by ex-Majority Leader Dean Skelos.
“Long Island is home to a precious coastal environment that is fundamental to our heritage and working to protect it for future generations is one of our solemn responsibilities,” Kaminsky said.

Long Beach City Councilman Anthony Eramo is leading former Nassau County Legis. Jeff Toback in fundraising in advance of the Democratic primary in the vacant 20th Assembly district, according to new State Board of Election campaign filings.
The 32-day pre-primary campaign filings cover the period from July 12 through Aug. 8. The primary is Sept. 13.
Eramo, a two-term councilman who is backed by the Nassau Democratic Committee, raised $30,550, spent $982 and has $133,558 on hand. In July he transferred $18,632 from his Long Beach account.

ALBANY - The Democrat who won disgraced state Senate GOP Majority Leader Dean Skelos' Long Island seat has the backing of a political action committee pushing for enactment of the Child Victims Act.
The Fighting for Children PAC, created by upstate investor and child sex abuse survivor Gary Greenberg, has endorsed Sen. Todd Kaminsky's reelection. Kaminsky, a former federal prosecutor, won the seat in a special election in April.
