Thomas J. Tweedy is seeking the Town of Hempstead District 2 Town Council seat. Tom is a lifelong TOH and Floral Park resident who brings a wealth of experience to our town. A graduate of Boston College with 38 years of Construction Management and Design-Build experience, Tom knows how to address and identify problems and then get the job done right. He brought that experience to bear when he first served as trustee in 2001 and expedited the completion of a $2.5M Recreation/Pool Building and its adjacent parking areas. Tom served 10 years as village trustee and was elected to 3 consecutive 2 year terms as Mayor of Floral Park. Some notable achievements as Mayor: improved the village finances and bond rating to AA2; expedited the design and construction of an on-time and on-budget new $6.75M Aquatic Recreation Complex; created and initiated a 5 year Road Reconstruction program; Directed rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy & Irene; Negotiated & expedited an easement and an intermunicipal agreement among 4 agencies for the design of new 5 acre recharge basin within Belmont Park to alleviate flooding in Floral Park, Bellerose and Elmont. Tom’s 16 years of public service is notable for his many successes, perseverance and honest, decisive leadership. Tom is a member of VFP’s Belmont Task Force, has coached Little League Baseball, Soccer & Basketball teams; active 38 year member and former President of his civic association. Tom is a member of the Knights of Columbus, lectors at Our Lady of Victory is married 39 years and proud father of two adult children.
