Charles Berman was re-elected Receiver of Taxes with 66% of the vote in November 2015. Previously, Charlie was elected to a full term as Receiver of Taxes in November 2011 after winning a special election to a one-year term in November 2010.
Now in his third term as North Hempstead Receiver of Taxes, Charlie oversees the annual mailing of over 180,000 tax bills, the transmission of 100,000 electronic bills to tax service organizations, and the receipt and processing of more than 288,000 tax payments, including over 10,000 payments made in person at Town Hall and at community collection sites.
In 2010, Charlie brought the Tax Office online with the Town’s “311” Call Center enabling taxpayers to receive prompt answers to their tax questions. Charlie is dedicated to making the tax-payment process as convenient as possible. Toward this goal, the Tax Office accepts online credit card and check (ACH) payments, as well as payments at community tax collection sites. Additionally, Charlie’s community outreach programs regarding property tax exemptions and assessment grievances have helped many residents lower their tax payments.
