Barbara Hafner

After becoming a teacher, Barbara became active in her local teacher’s union, first as vice president, then later elected as president for the past 18 years and currently serves on the Executive Board of NYSUT

Barbara was honored as one of the “Women of Distinction” by New York State Assemblyman Tom Alfano. Barbara continues to be an advocate for women and currently serves on the NYSUT Women’s Committee, as well as the Long Island Federation of Labor, A.L.L.O.W. Advancing Local Leadership opportunities for Women INC.

Barbara was the first in her family to get a college education and pursue a professional career. Barbara’s degrees include an A.A. in Fashion Marketing and Management from Berkely College; a B.S. in Elementary Education, SUNY college of Old Westbury; and a M.S. in Reading, Adelphi University.

Barbara is a wife, mother, educator and long time West Hempstead resident. For the past 25 years, Barbara has served the students and parents of the West Hempstead Public School as a middle school mathematics teacher.
